Black and White Photography, Hummingbird, Photography

The Department of Natural Resources released a statement recently about a yet undetermined cause of disease that is causing sickness and the death of many songbirds across several states, including Indiana. They have also included robins, blue jays, cardinals, and starlings in their request. They have asked everyone to not feed birds and remove feeders and birdbaths after cleaning with 10% bleach water to help prevent the spread of the disease. They have also requested that this be done with hummingbird feeders also. I was worried that the hummingbirds might not return next year as they always seem to ‘demand’ their feeders and let you know for sure if it is empty. However; it is not the feeder they are returning to, but their territory. We have taken ours down as requested. The birds are still coming to the flowers and granted are looking around for their easy handouts. But they also still look healthy, which is a win. You can find out more by checking your state Department of Natural Resources.

Happy birding and thank you for visiting. ~ terre

Terre’s Blog – Journal

Today is Friday and moving right along with the seasons. This is also my first journal entry in Terre’s Blog – Women of All Seasons. The world still remains primarily in shutdown and non-travel mode which is hard on everyone. Being home more though, has probably put me more in touch with my local nature, more so than other years. We even noticed the day that our tiny hummingbird friends took off for their sunny, warm vacation lands. They were so very entertaining as they guarded their feeders and sometimes flew up looking in the windows.

Even though I love Fall, the changing color of the leaves, pumpkins, apple cider, and warm sweaters; I find it bittersweet to say goodbye for another year to the gifts of this summer. This summer was the first time that our tomatoes did so good that we actually had green tomatoes on the roof of the house! We had never seen that ever here in Indiana. But I guess these gifts  gives us more reasons to look forward to summer again next year. When it comes to Fall though, I don’t think I would make a very good tree. For I’m sure that I would have an argument about having to change colors knowing that I would have to then be bare, even if I would be beautiful first.

On another note, I still keep plugging away with my blog, though I haven’t been able to figure out SEO and some of the analytics that just don’t make sense. I so appreciate all my followers and readers that have been hanging in there with me on this learning journey as I try to get better.

Here are just a few images of the last of summer. Enjoy ~
